How to apply to become an ELIXIR-UK DaSH Fellow

How to apply – record a 6-minute video

Because producing short training videos is one of the key outcomes of this fellowship, we would like to see how our applicants approach this task. While we don’t expect you to produce a perfect, professional piece of video, we want to see how you organise your ideas and deliver them. This is what makes a good trainer.

You don’t need to be an expert in video editing or production. If your application is successful, we’ll walk you through how to record the videos with a complete set of instructions, and our team will always be with you every step of the way.

Content

About yourself, your role, your affiliation
Your data management interest and experience
Why do you want to train, and which is your ideal target audience (think about the life sciences workforce)
Some ideas of the data specialism you want to focus on, e.g. topics you’d like to train in. If your application is successful, this information will not be set in stone

Requirements

Maximum 6-minutes long (+ a few seconds). If you significantly exceed this, we’ll only consider the first 6 minutes of your video.
Voice-over needed (cameras off/on, up to you)
Screencast. We are looking for the recording of a presentation. We recommend using PowerPoint native recording or a simple Zoom call recorded. But we are open to any other options that involve a video and a voiceover.
Compressed format video (e.g. .mov, .mp4)
Make it fun, conversational and approachable, as though you were talking to a colleague at work
If you use a slide deck, we want to see less text and more storytelling. Your voice should be the centre stage; your presentation should only aid it.
