ELIXIR-UK Platforms

ELIXIR’s activities are divided into five areas called ‘Platforms‘.

These are Data, Tools, Compute, Interoperability, and Training. The Platforms are managed by Platform leaders and the work is carried out by groups within the Platforms.

Aims to identify key data resources across Europe and support the linkages between data and literature.

UK involvement: We lead on a Core Data Resource – CATH and are involved in 1 of the 4 current Commissioned Services in this platform:

Develops services to make it easier to store, share and analyse large datasets.

UK involvement: we are involved in 2 of the 4 current Commissioned Services in this platform:

Tools Platform

The Tools Platform helps communities find, register and benchmark software tools. These tools help researchers access, analyse and integrate biological data, and so drive scientific discovery across the life sciences.

UK involvement: We are involved in 3 of the 6 current Commissioned Services for this Platform:

Interoperability Platform

Develops and encourages the adoption of standards to describe life science data.

UK involvement: Susanna-Assunta Sansone (Univeristy of Oxford) is a lead for this Platform and we are involved in 2 of the 3 current Commissioned Services in this platform:

Helps scientists and developers find the training they need, and also provides that training. ELIXIR-UK plays a crucial role in training in the UK and across ELIXIR.

UK involvement: Alexia Cardona (University of Cambridge) and University Manchester are both Task Leads for this Platform and we are involved in all 4 of the current Commissioned Services in this Platform:
