Fellowship Application Video Guide

This guide will help you produce your application video for the Data Stewardship Fellowship Programme 2021-2022.

Video Type

We are looking for a 6-minute long (maximum) voice-over slide presentation screencast.  The content of your slides should be professional and the style of your slides should be suitable for assessment in a research and development environment.

Video Content

In your presentation you must address who you are professionally, what you do and an overview of the material you would like to develop and teach.  There are no restrictions on the number of slides you use.  An example would be:

  • Slide one: “About myself, my role, my professional affiliation”
  • Slide two: “My data management interests and experience”
  • Slide three: “Why I would like to train and the audience I would train to”
  • Slide four-onwards: “An overview of the data specialism I would like to deliver online and the topics I would cover”

Screencast Tools

You can use any screencast tool available for your operating system (see Wikipedia for a list of examples). We recommend Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) Studio or Zoom.

Sending us the video

You can host your video anywhere that will allow us to download it from the URL you provide.  We advise an MP4 file hosted on Google Drive, OneDrive or Dropbox

Examples of video applications

The Software Sustainability Institute (SSI) has a long running Fellowship Programme, and are helping to set up the ELIXIR-UK Data Stewardship Fellowship Programme. You can see  example videos from the SSI programme for inspiration about how to put a video application together. Please remember that the content requirements of the ELIXIR-UK Data Stewardship Fellowship Programme (training development & delivery) are different that those of the SSI (sustainable software best practice).
