The 2025 call for new ELIXIR-UK services is now open.
Deadline to apply: 29 May 2025
The ELIXIR-UK services span all ELIXIR areas: Training, Interoperability and Standards, Data and Tools. Becoming an ELIXIR-UK service indicates the value the service has to the community, makes the service eligible for internal ELIXIR funding, and raises the profile of the service throughout this European infrastructure.
We are proud to have an open and transparent process for selecting new services based on a set of criteria designed to ensure high service quality and match UK priorities as identified by our funders.
We currently have 31 endorsed ELIXIR-UK services and five roadmapped ones, which have been carefully selected to align with the ELIXIR consortium’s mission, scientific programme, its communities and thematic areas.
Benefits
Services selected by the UK Node amplify their reach and improve their opportunities for long-term sustainability. ELIXIR-UK services benefit from exposure to a wide range of potential users and collaborators across Europe and globally.
Although Node Service status does not confer additional funding, it indicates the value placed on the service by ELIXIR. Furthermore, those offering Node Services can apply for ELIXIR Europe funding through their projects called Implementation Studies and for UK Node funding for participation in ELIXIR.
The most significant benefit is the raised profile throughout ELIXIR.
Our services have benefited from being part of the ELIXIR community in several ways, as Robert Andrews from the University of Cardiff explains:
‘ELIXIR-UK has enabled us to apply for funds for Lipid Maps to curate lipid structures and pathways in partnership with other ELIXIR data resources in mainland Europe.’
Selection criteria
An external selection panel assesses services based on:
- Alignment with the five ELIXIR infrastructure areas (data, tools, compute, interoperability, training)
- Impact
- Level of usage
- Sustainability
