Automating FAIR training metadata pipelines - upcoming BITS project launch

Training materials are only useful if the people who need them can find them, and keeping that discoverability up by hand does not scale.

Phil Reed (The University of Manchester) will introduce Automating FAIR Training Metadata Pipelines: Bioconductor into TeSS and Beyond (BITS), an upcoming project to make training materials easier to discover through community collaboration on tools and playbooks.

BITS is a collaboration between the ELIXIR TeSS team and the Bioconductor training community, with international co-lead Maria Doyle (University of Limerick). Together they will improve how TeSS gathers training information and develop practices that further communities can reuse. The project is funded by the Institute for Research Software (formerly the Software Sustainability Institute) under its Research Software Maintenance Fund.

What to expect

  • An introduction to the BITS project and how it will make training materials easier to find and access
  • How collaboration between training providers and infrastructure platforms can reduce manual effort
  • How TeSS will improve the way it gathers training information
  • How the practices developed can be reused by other communities
  • An invitation to the BITS project launch on 14 December, with details provided in the call

Who is this for

This call is for anyone who wants training materials to reach a wider audience with less manual effort. You will find it especially relevant if you:

  • Manage collections of openly licensed training resources and events and want to reach beyond your institution
  • Use ELIXIR TeSS, particularly if you register materials with automated methods such as Bioschemas, or want to start automating
  • Manage training catalogues, including the metadata records or search engine optimisation

How to join

This event will be held virtually. Register to join the ELIXIR-UK Training Club to receive the meeting link and further details. If you don’t wish to attend the community calls in the future, you can unsubscribe at any time.
