ELIXIR-UK contributes to cross-sector collaboration strategy at joint Pistoia–EMBL–ELIXIR meeting

6 August 2025

On 17 July 2025, ELIXIR-UK joined leaders from EMBL-EBI, the Pistoia Alliance, and the wider ELIXIR for a high-level strategy meeting held at the EMBL-EBI campus in Hinxton, UK.

The meeting explored new models for sustainable collaboration between commercial R&D, public research infrastructures, and supply-side organisations. Carole Goble, ELIXIR-UK Head of Node, played a leading role in the agenda and discussions throughout the day. She led a breakout session on interoperability and cross-industry collaboration and chaired the final panel session on building a sustainable collaboration framework that included funding requirements

On this event, the UK Node was happy to attend and participate in discussions alongside our colleagues at BioFAIR, the BioCommons infrastructure for UK life science researchers. Tony Burdett, Director at BioFAIR, contributed to the panel discussion on sustainable collaboration.

This engagement forms part of ELIXIR-UK’s broader mission to ensure UK contributions to FAIR life sciences research infrastructures are well-represented in international conversations – particularly at the intersection of policy, technology and long-term impact and sustainability.
