Become ELIXIR-UK's AI Champion in Europe

ELIXIR-UK is appointing an AI Champion to hold the UK seat on ELIXIR’s new AI for Life Sciences Working Group.

The Champion speaks for the UK Node in a European group convened to position ELIXIR as a key enabler for AI in the life sciences, connecting high-quality data, compute, processing environments, tools, expertise and communities.

What the group is working through

The working group is setting ELIXIR’s direction on AI.

  • Where ELIXIR can provide distinctive value within the European AI landscape
  • How ELIXIR should connect data, compute, workflows, models and expertise
  • What’s required to make ELIXIR data resources and services genuinely AI-ready
  • How to address reproducibility, transparency, benchmarking and responsible AI
  • Which existing activities should be consolidated, expanded or discontinued
  • What data linkages are essential, and whether these need joint work, partnership or an MoU with other organisations, ERICs or EDICs

What the role carries

  • A seat at a table where decisions are made on positioning a European infrastructure
  • Recognition as the UK’s voice on AI within ELIXIR, across our 32 member institutions and in front of European partners
  • Direct line into ELIXIR’s AI strategy, and the AI Focus Group
  • ELIXIR-UK support to attend key strategic meetings, including travel and subsistence.

What the role involves

  • Representing ELIXIR-UK in the working group
  • Holding the Node’s position on AI readiness, reproducibility, benchmarking and responsible AI, and putting UK perspectives behind it
  • Feeding back progress and decisions to the ELIXIR-UK community
  • Flagging where UK activities, resources or expertise should inform the group’s recommendations

Who we’re looking for

Someone who can represent ELIXIR-UK at a strategic level – able to speak to the Node’s priorities, connect the working group’s questions back to UK capability and community, and bring outcomes back to the Node in a form others can act on.

Familiarity with ELIXIR and existing AI-related work (the strategy, the AI Factory approach, the Focus Group) is an advantage, but a clear grasp of where UK data, compute and tooling fit into the wider European AI landscape matters more than prior ELIXIR committee experience.

How to apply

If you’re interested in this opportunity, email a short statement (250 words max) outlining your suitability and why you’d like to represent ELIXIR-UK to contact@elixiruknode.org.
