AHM Lyon debrief: health data takes the stage
Two workshops. One community. A growing impact.
The ELIXIR All Hands Meeting (AHM) is one of the most competitive spaces for a slot in the ELIXIR calendar of events – and this year, the leads of the Human Data & Tech Club have earned not one but two workshops on the programme. Securing two slots is real evidence of the relevance of the work of our members in our UK community.
What’s happening in Lyon
Workshop 1 – Monday 9 June
Bringing health data standards across Europe: From OMOP to GA4GH
Chaired by Wendi Bacon, Tim Beck, and Saskia Lawson-Tovey, this session brings together ELIXIR Nodes to align on health data standards including the OMOP Common Data Model and GA4GH standards such as Beacon, Phenopackets, and Passports/AAI. Featuring real-world use cases from HDR UK’s Cohort Discovery tool and the 5 Safes TES, plus lightning talks from 14 ELIXIR Nodes and collaborative breakout discussions.
Workshop 2 – Tuesday 10 June
Connecting health data pan-Europe: how can we help each other?
Also chaired by Saskia Lawson-Tovey, Wendi Bacon, and Tim Beck, this session takes a community-building focus. With lightning talks from over 20 ELIXIR Nodes, it will surface shared challenges around GDPR, sensitive data infrastructure, and governance – and explore how Nodes can better support each other as the dedicated Health Data Focus Group winds down.
What to expect
Following the AHM, our HDT Club call will hear directly from those who led and participated in Lyon. We’ll share:
- Key takeaways and outcomes from both workshops
- Highlights from the node lightning talks across Europe
- Next steps for cross-node collaboration and community connection
- Plans for the post-workshop reports
Whether you were in Lyon or not, this is your chance to stay connected with the health data community’s direction of travel across ELIXIR.
Who is this for
This community call is for anyone with an interest in health data research and infrastructure across ELIXIR and beyond. You’ll find it especially relevant if you:
- Are a member of the ELIXIR-UK Human Data & Tech Club or curious about joining.
- Work with health or clinical data in a research context.
- Are interested in pan-European data standards such as OMOP, GA4GH Beacon, or Phenopackets.
- Want to understand how different countries (ELIXIR Nodes) are navigating shared challenges around GDPR, sensitive data and governance.
- Couldn’t make it to Lyon and want to stay connected with what’s shaping the health data community space.
